During 2016, Alberta has endured many challenges and we feel that especially this year, it is better to give than to receive. So in lieu of holiday gifts or cards we have taken these resources and provided donations to local food banks in our markets. These donations equate to providing 10,500 meals this holiday season.

In January 2017, Alberta joins B.C., Ontario and Quebec’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions with the introduction of its carbon levy (tax). In addition, the Canadian government recently announced a national carbon price starting in 2018 at $10 per tonne, increasing annually to $50 by 2022. As Canada moves towards a common policy over the next few years, the implications for Canadian businesses will be felt as companies adjust to the costs associated with their carbon footprint.

First West Capital attends Calgary Chamber of Commerce Small Business Conference Oct 25, 2016

Our Regional Director, Southern Alberta, Adil Lalani represented First West Capital at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce Small Business Conference last week. According to the Calgary Herald, the conference experienced a record turnout and doubled their attendance from last year. “Calgary small businesses are still thriving, and optimistic, despite the economy. Events like this one go to show that there are many opportunities to continue to grow,” says Adil.
